Anything is possible

When we are kids, we are taught to believe that anything is possible; you can be whatever you want to be. As adults, many of us begin to lose faith in ourselves and life in general. Where it’s the cards we’ve been dealt or our lack of motivation, we try less and less to achieve our dreams. Too many times, we are told that our dreams aren’t possible; that they are too far from our reach. What I’ve learned recently is that, if you want something bad enough and work at it hard and long enough, you can make it happen. I’m not saying it’s going to be easy, but you can get there.

I myself have been stuck in that rut; I had lost all hope and my dreams seemed impossible. When I got to a point in my life where I was no longer in control of my life, because I had let people hold me back and tell me what I could and couldn’t do. I lost who I was. I wasn’t enjoying life anymore and forgot who I was.

It’s okay to let people guide you along the way and share their experiences, but at the end of the day, you’re the one in control of your life. If there is something that makes you happy (for me, that’s writing) and others tell you it can’t happen, don’t let that stop you. I’ve been told by many people that I’ll never make enough money as a writer.

I hope I have inspired you to do what makes you happy. Life is too short to waste.

  1. You might not make enough money as a writer? Who told you that? There are all sorts of ways to make money as a writer and I've been doing it since the 1980's. Don't put yourself in a small box, take your pen or pencil or keypad and wander the world and find the jobs. They are out there.

  2. Doc, it's always great to hear others' stories about writing. I personally love it so much, it's like the perfect release for me. It's taken me a while, but I'm learning that when you love something this much, you do whatever it takes to make it work. I have had many family members tell me I couldn't do it, and just the faces people make when I tell them what I do for a living lol. But, at the end of the day, I'm happy and I don't care what they think :)

Good luck to you on your future writings :) I wish you the best.

  3. Good for you. The only people who will try to crush your dreams are the ones who gave up on their own years ago. They somehow want to suck everyone into their little humdrum day to day world, probably to make themselves feel better about what they've lost.
Here's the real deal though, keep at it, realize that your biggest friend is yourself, and don't rely on others too much. If you find that a job or relationship is holding you back, end it and move on. When the time comes for things like high school reunions and you are in, say, Paris, let it go. If you are following your dreams you will have left those people behind, will no longer have much in common with them, and will have a whole new set of friends who will be a part of your world and will be supportive of you. Don't try to go backward, it is pointless, keep moving forward and you will find what you are after. You're just getting started in this game so when you encounter the ones who will try to take you down just smile and nod and pass them by.
It's the American dream for people to become successful. It's the American way for others to try to drag them back down once they've achieved success. You can quote me on that. --Doc Preacher

  4. I'm so glad I just read your comment. I'm having one of those days and it really helped. It made me think about how happy I am doing what I do and I know that if I keep working at it, all my dreams will come true.

    Thanks :):)
